BET Networks announced the nominees for the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards amid a much energized “106th & Park” audience on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The show’s hosts, Rocsi and Terrence J, were joined by hip-hop luminaries, Busta Rhymes, Big K.R.I.T, and Meek Mils, along with the returning host of the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards, Mike Epps. Epps will host the show for a third time.
When asked what celebs are on his radar this year to be the butt of his jokes, he says, “I want all of the viewers to send me a list of anybody that they want me to talk about.” With reality TV being as big as it is today, there will be no deficit of names to throw in the hat.
The leading contenders for this year’s BET Hip-Hop awards are: Lil Wayne, leading with a record-breaking 18 nominations, followed by Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa, tied at nine nominations each. Miami rapper, Rick Ross, received eight nods.
The 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards will return to the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlantic Civic Center in Atlanta, where it’s been held since its inception. The show will tape on Saturday, Oct. 1 with the network premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. (EST/PST).
This year, the BET is bringing back the Grammy Awards famed producers, Cossette Productions to handle the broadcast and the telecast will be executive produced by Stephen G. Hill, BET President, Music and Programming, along with Lynne Harris-Taylor, BET Vice President of Specials. –raychelle leblanc
