D.O.C. Talks Erykah Badu: ‘Erykah Loves Me’

D.O.C. Talks Erykah Badu: ‘Erykah Loves Me’Many a famous writer has called unrequited love a monstrous thing, but for legendary lyricist D.O.C. it seems to be a walk in the park. After being publicly jilted by singer Erykah Badu, the mother of his daughter, the West Coast emcee is now claiming he’s in love with Badu and that “Erykah loves me.”

Last month, in an interview with LA Weekly, D.O.C., who reportedly lives part-time with Badu and their 7-year-old daughter, Puma, voiced his hope for a reality show that would chronicle his relationship with Badu, eventually leading up to a wedding.

However, Badu’s team later released a statement to the Dallas Observer, claiming that the two “share parental responsibilities but “no romantic dynamic exists between the two.” Badu’s camp also claimed that the “Window Seat” singer had no plans to film a reality show and that “The D.O.C.’s comments were either taken out of context, improperly interpreted or reflective of his now not-so-secret desires.”

But apparently for D.O.C., no just doesn’t mean no. In a recent interview with MTV News, the rapper admitted he jokingly exaggerated a bit with his comments but claimed he didn’t believe that Badu wrote the statement.

“I think she let one of her handlers get ahold of it,” he said. “First of all, I was just playin’ in the interview. I might’ve took [sic] it a little too far. She let her folks get back at me, but that’s my baby’s mother, and the bottom line is she is the perfect mother to my daughter, Puma, who I am in love with, and that’s all that really matters to me.”

And as for marriage, though Badu has never married any of her children’s fathers, including Andre 3000 and Jay Electronica, D.O.C. claimed that he doesn’t need a wedding ring.

“I’m as married to Erykah as I’m gonna get. I don’t need no rings to love her,” he said. “I love Erykah and I know she loves me and we are both in love with that baby girl, and that’s what it’s really all about.”

Well, perhaps one day “next lifetime” Badu will acknowledge their “love”  or maybe D.O.C. will finally take a hint.
