Ludacris, Stevie Williams, Kenny Burns

On Friday, September 30, I received a special invite to pro skateboarder Stevie Williams’ private event at his skate park, Da Playground, which was hosted by radio personality Kenny Burns. It’s tucked away in a private area at Phipps Plaza. I had no clue that there was a skate park underneath the mall. The huge skate park is spray painted in colorful graffiti, adorned with tricked-out skateboards, a DGK Skateboards showroom, a state of the art PlayStation area, and a pool table. I chatted with Stevie, and learned that he’s originally from Philly, but now resides in both Los Angeles and Atlanta. He built the skate park in Atlanta because he wanted to have a place to chill while also conducting business in Atlanta.

He comes from very humble beginnings and has built a major empire. A father of two, he shared that neither his son or daughter has shown an interest in the sport yet.

During the event, a host of entertainment industry types stopped by to kick back, listen to the great music and drink complimentary cocktails provided by Grey Goose. I spotted rapper Ludacris and others who were coming in as I was exiting. I had to scoot to some other events since it was BET Hip Hop Awards Weekend.

It was a pleasure meeting Williams. A special thanks to thank Premier PR for the personal invite and to New Era for the fabulous goody bag.
