Game may be a polarizing superstar in front of cameras and on the mic, but at home he’s just a man living a normal life with his girlfriend, Tiffany Cambridge, and their two kids. And now that the West Coast has fulfilled his California dreams, he’s ready to give his family the American dream after successfully proposing to Cambridge on Oct. 12.
For the proposal, which was documented by MTV News, Game decided early in the day to set up an elaborate plot at Frank D. Parent Elementary school in Inglewood, California where Cambridge works as a teacher. After having the school’s principal setup a last minute fake meeting after school, Game was ready to put his plan into action.
At around 2:30 p.m. Game arrived on the scene to spring the surprise and 15 minutes later, a shocked Cambridge walked into the room to find her beau, their two kids, family friends, coworkers, the bishop and several media outlets awaiting her arrival. After Cambridge was greeted by their children, Game immediately dropped down on one knee and said, “I just wanted to ask you: Would you marry me?”
A stunned Cambridge immediately answered with, “Oh, yes, Jayceon,”addressing the rapper by his real name before the two kissed in front of the cheering crowd. Explaining her delighted shock, Cambridge commented, “I’m just, like, in shock right now, so excuse my expression. I am the deer-in-a-headlight type of person.”
Cambridge was the only one who was nervous. Game, who was literally sweating bullets after the proposal, explained how the last-minute idea came together.
“The planning was all quick, last minute. I woke up today with a different headspace, and I just started planning this at 10 a.m., and we pulled it off by 2 [p.m.]. Four hours to pull all these media outlets, get the school in line, the principal, the bishop from the church to come down. The sun came out, obviously [I’m] sweating here, crazy.”
For Game, a rapper who, like many others in his field, has lyrically boasted of his sexual conquests throughout the years, the decision to get married comes after years of growth and maturation with the woman who’s stood by his side for the last seven years.
“As a man, this is that day where you throw your player card away and you kinda gotta step up and be a family man, and she deserves it,” Game said. “It’s been a long run, and we’ve been together at least seven years. We’ve been off, we’ve been on, we’ve been arguing, we fought. We had good times and bad times, and I think that at the end of the day, as a man, this is something that I owed to her and I owed to my family, so it was time.”
Though Game successfully planned the proposal, he says that he’s going to leave the wedding plans to his bride-to-be.
“No, no, no — I’m gonna stay on the Xbox, I’m gonna play ‘Madden,’ I’m gonna let her plan it all the way out, and then I’m gonna go overseas and get whatever she needs so she can successfully have the wedding of her life,” Game said.
Congratulations to Game and Cambridge on their engagement. –nicholas robinson
