Child actor-turned-rapper Drake has been riding the waves of musical success ever since he traded in “Degrassi: The Next Generation” scripts for chart-topping lyrics a few years ago. Though it’s been a while since Drake has flexed his acting muscles, the Young Money rapper didn’t seem to miss a beat when he appeared on a recent episode of NBC’s venerable sketch comedy show, “Saturday Night Live.”
In the first of two comedy skits, Drake appeared alongside SNL cast member Andy Samberg in a series of odd celebrity interviews, “A Brief Interview With Drake,” in which Drake only spoke half a sentence before it was over, “An Extremely Close Interview With Drake,” which only showed close ups of the emcee’s body parts, like his curly hair and mouth, and “A Wordless Seduction of Drake” interview, in which Samberg made hilarious “googly eyes” and sexual gestures at a confused but calm Drake.
Next up, the Canadian rapper, donning a blue sweater with his OVO owl on it, hit the stage with a five-piece band to perform “Headlines,” the first single off of his sophomore album, Take Care.
For his second skit, Drake took a ride on the wild side as one half of a pair of mischievous teens dressed as werewolves on “Weekend Update.” In the skit, Drake and comedian Jay Pharoah, explained their love for “bag jacking” little kids for their candy on Halloween.
“Yeah, instead of going house to house we go kid to kid, and they cry, like, ‘I’m hungry. I want my candy.’ It’s really funny,” explained Drake’s character to “Weekend Update” host Seth Meyers.
The furry duo then performed an impassioned ode to their love of “bag jacking,” rapping, “We bag jacking b—–s,” with Drake spitting funny lines like, “Give me your Reese’s pieces, give me your Hershey bar/I want your Milky Way, give me that Snickers bar/I would Trick-Or-Treat, but I’m too old now/So I snatch your bag so I don’t look like a pedophile!”
Returning for his final musical performance, Drake hit the stage with favorite Harajuku Barbie, Nicki Minaj, to perform his latest single, “Make Me Proud.” Dressed in skin-tight neon body suit, black heels and signature asymmetrical black wig, the rap vixen and her bodacious booty mesmerized the crowd and Drake, who, after the performance, thanked Minaj for wearing the skin-tight outfit and kissed the blushing rapstress on the cheek before bowing in appreciation.
For those wondering if Drake will, once again, take a break from acting, the emcee recently spoke with MTV News about begging to get a skit on SNL and promised that fans will see him back on the big screen, soon enough.
“I’m eager to act. I’m eager to make people laugh or, you know, accept a dramatic role. I’m just excited to get back into that. I miss it,” said Drake, who recently signed with talent agency William Morris to revive his acting career.
“We’re just building up our relationship, so I’m excited to get back into it. I found a home and I feel very proud of where I’m at and I’m excited to move forward and start getting back out there, man,” he admitted. “Whatever projects there are available, I’m down.”
