Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being pulled over in Temple, Ga., Oct. 18 and arrested on felony drug and weapons possession charges.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution‘s Access Atlanta, Soulja Boy and four other men were traveling west in a Cadillac Escalade along I-20 at around 2:30 a.m. when they were pulled over in Temple by police vehicle equipment violation.
According to Dana Rampy, a spokesperson for Temple police, the officer who pulled Soulja Boy and his friends over searched the vehicle and found more than 5 ounces of marijuana in Soulja Boy’s Louis Vuitton briefcase, a sizable amount of cash and three handguns.
“It was a lot of marijuana,” said Rampy, adding that any amount exceeding an ounce is grounds for an intent to sell charge.
TMZ reported that police found “roughly $70,000 in cash and drugs” in he Escalade, however, Rampy has denied the reports, telling Billboard, “I don’t know where they got that.” According to Temple Police Chief Tim Shaw, the amount was $40,000. It’s still not known if the guns were properly registered to any of the occupants.
Soulja Boy and the other men were subsequently arrested and taken into the Carroll County Jail. After appearing before a judge, all five men were charged with felony marijuana possession, felony marijuana possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, each of which carries a penalty of 1 to 10 years, according to the judge.
“All of the individuals were very cooperative,” said Rampy of the arrest.
According to Atlanta’s Channel 2 Action News, Soulja Boy later released on $10,000 bond.
For Soulja Boy’s sake, hopefully, he’ll take note from the hard-earned wisdom of fellow Atlanta rappers T.I. and Big Boi, lest he go down their same troubled paths.
