Moore announced the news in a statement to The Associated Press.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton,” Moore said. “As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation.”
Kutcher also shared his grief about the divorce, taking to Twitter to say, “Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK.”
Things had been strained between the couple since last month, when Kutcher’s alleged mistress, Sara Leal, claimed that she’d had a one-night stand with Kutcher on the sixth wedding anniversary with Moore, during which they engaged in unprotected sex together. A year ealrier, another woman, Brittany Jones, claimed she’d had sex with Kutcher in 2010.
Like they’d done the previous year, after Leal’s accusations hit the news, the couple appeared to be working on their relationship, taking trips together to revitalize their bond. Unfortunately, this time their attempts to strengthen their relationship did not work.
