In 2000, no other rapper – and arguably no other artist – was hotter newcomer Eminem. His sophomore album, The Marshall Mathers LP, had garnered massive critical acclaim, stirred up a heaping of controversy for its content and earned Em eight platinum plaques by years end. But at the 2001 Grammy Awards, Eminem was snubbed by the Recording Academy when the Album of the Year trophy was handed to veteran act Steely Dan over Eminem.
