Lady Gaga – The Fame
Lady Gaga’s rise to the top of the music scene had been in the works since 2008, when her debut album was, The Fame, was released. But it wasn’t until 2009 that the album picked up steam and rocketed the artist to the top of the music scene. And at the following Grammy Awards ceremony, many assumed that she would snag the Best New Artist trophy, but an earlier nod for her Best Dance Recording for “Just Dance” barred Gaga from being nominated for the category. The Recording Academy subsequently altered their nomination guidelines, saying that artists who have received previous nominations but failed to win may still be eligible for the Best New Artist trophy.
