'The Game' Scores Major Ratings With Season 5 Premiere

After a months-long hiatus, BET’s hit series “The Game” finally returned on Jan. 10 with its fifth season premiere. As expected, the show’s army of loyal fans responded in droves, helping the premiere garner more than five million viewers.

According to ZAP2it, the scripted series premiered to 5.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen, making it BET’s No. 1 telecast this year as well as cable’s No. 1 scripted series telecast among adults 18 to 49 this season and the No. 1 cable sitcom premiere this season among households, viewers and adults 18 to 49.

Though it’s not as big as their eight- million plus numbers for their season four premiere, which was the show’s return to TV after being canceled by the CW two years prior, the new ratings figure cement “The Game” as a ratings dynamo and a sure success for BET when it comes to original programming. The series also had the highest amount of social media buzz of all other prime-time cable television shows, according to Trendrr’s Prime-Time Television Activity Chart.
