Driving Miss Daisy, 1989. Starring Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy and Dan Akroyd:
This was the movie that had black America’s underwear in a bunch. And it also propelled director Spike Lee, who’d just completed the classic Do the Right Thing, into the international spotlight for his heat-seeking criticisms of the master-servant film featuring the listless, goofy, happy-go-lucky black chauffeur that he believes Hollywood promotes over more well-rounded African American characters and films.
