Racist Trayvon Martin Cartoon Published in College Paper. Write the Editor!

If student cartoonist Stephanie Eisner intended to create controversy, she struck a gold mine with her cartoon published in The Daily Texan.

The Daily Texan is the University of Texas-Austin student-operated paper. Eisner illustrates the media storm surrounding the shooting of unarmed Trayvon Martin as the big bad white man killing the colored boy.

The University’s first response was to pull the comic off of its website, only to replace it with this explanation:

A controversial editorial cartoon on the Trayvon Martin shooting was published Tuesday on the Opinion page of The Daily Texan. The Daily Texan Editorial Board recognizes the sensitive nature of the cartoon’s subject matter.

The views expressed in the cartoon are not those of the editorial board. They are those of the artist. It is the policy of the editorial board to publish the views of our columnists and cartoonists, even if we disagree with them.

What do you think of the cartoon? Perhaps you should share your opinion with the editor of the Daily Texan, [email protected].
