OCHO RIOS, Jamaica — As many places as I have traveled across the globe — as a kid, in the military and during my journalism career — I had never had the opportunity to set foot in Jamaica and had never met a non-Americanized Jamaican woman.
That all changed when the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage roared ashore glamorous city of Ocho Rios on the outskirts of the island nation.
Like other nations with a large presence of African descendants that the Tom Joyner cruise has visited over the years — Belize, the Grand Caymans, St. Thomas, Turks and Caicos, The Bahamas and Cozumel in Mexico — the citizens in Jamaica come in wonderful shades of blackness and helped the cruisers get in touch with citizens of the African Diaspora.
Let’s take a quick look at the women of Jamaica.
