Sweden’s Minister of Culture is receiving criticism today after she was photographed cutting into a racist cake at a recent taxpayer-funded party. Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth was pictured on World Art Day celebrating with a cake depicting an African woman. The cake was very dark and depicted a woman with bright red lips and large white teeth. The top of the cake featured the cake’s designer, Makode Aj Linde, who not only included himself as part of the piece (he was the head of the cake, in black-face), but posted pictures of the event on his Facebook page.
Minister Lijeroth not only cut into the cake, she performed a clitoridectomy on it by removing the cake woman’s labium.
Makode Aj Linde, a self-proclaimed performance artist, screamed while the cake was being sliced and later wrote online,
“This is after getting my vagaga mutilated by the minister of culture, Lena Adelsohn Liljerothe. Before cutting me up she whispered, ‘Your life will be better after this’ in my ear.” Linde, a black man, frequently makes these kinds of pieces.
The cutting was meant to mimic female genital mutilation, the practice of cutting off a woman’s external female genitalia and sewing it back together, a practice followed by many cultures around the world.
In an article about the incident, Stockholm’s Fria Tider paper bashed the minister for her poor judgement and dubbed it a “n—– cake.”
Lijeroth has previously called herself an “anti-racist.”
