'Basketball Wives' Feature Film Might Be Picked Up by Fox Searchlight; Why Movie a Bad Idea

If you can’t get enough of the drink throwing, neck rolling, “Basketball Wives, you’re in luck now that their outlandish antics may have inspired a new movie. Variety reports that Fox Searchlight has accepted a pitch from “Basket Ball Wives” producer Shaunie O’ Neal and Jumping the Broom writer-producer Tracey Edmonds for an as yet untitled new movie. Also on board is Elizabeth Hunter, a Jumping the Broom co-writer who will pen the script.

While details are skimpy because the feature is only in its beginning phases, Variety reports that it will draw loosely from the lives of O’Neal and some of her friends and tell the story of a woman who follows her basketball playing beau to Miami. “The beauty of a feature film is that we’ll have the ability to dig much deeper into the stories and characters that come from this very colorful world and create a very juicy action-packed narrative,” Edmonds told Variety. Edmonds, who’s been in recent headlines for romancing Deion Sanders, also noted that she was contacted about the film by O’Neal via Twitter. –danielle canada
