Jessy Blanchard decided she wanted to do something sweet for her family. “I started baking cupcakes for my husband in 2009. I was working really hard to eat healthy, so I started using all-natural ingredients and baking from scratch,” she shares.
Blanchard was inspired by her grandmother, who was a lifelong baker. She fondly remembers the allure of her grandmother’s fresh baked bread when she was growing up, so she’s always had an inherent desire to produce fresh and pure confections.
“My family didn’t know the difference. Eventually, I started making cupcakes for friends’ birthdays, holidays, office parties and corporate events. I realized that I enjoyed it so much and everyone was requesting my cupcakes. I thought, “Why not turn this into a business?’ ” she says.
In 2010, Blanchard incorporated her business and a year later, she started the website: JessyCupcakeCo.com, which has grown to be the primary portal of her Brooklyn-based business and boasts of being “NYC’s original healthy custom cupcakery.”
The cupcakes are baked fresh on demand from all-natural, wholesome ingredients, and are available in vegan, diabetic, gluten-free and organic varieties – from creamy signature peanut butter cup to luscious lemon drop martini. Custom designs range from flowers to pumpkins.
“I take orders through my site and most of my customers are in the New York area,” shares the Vanderbilt University’s College of Arts and Science graduate.
