Sadly, the audience votes were not in Maria’s favor and the frontrunner was eliminated from the competition. And as expected, fans were disappointed by the shocking elimination and booed louding after the results were revealed. Despite her shocking defeat, Maria handled her elimination graciously.
“I learned so many things. I learned how strong I was,” said Maria of her time on the show. Her partner, Derek Hough, praised her, “I loved loved loved dancing with this woman. She’s not just a champion of dancing, she’s a champion of life.”
