Throughout her career, Oprah Winfrey has jumpstarted and saved the careers of business owners, fallen stars and average Joe’s alike. And now she’s extended that helping hand to her father and his struggling business.
According to RadarOnline, Winfrey has purchased her father, Vernon Winfrey’s, Nashville barbershop out of foreclosure.
Vernon opened the barbershop more than 50 years ago and it’s become a staple in his community. And last year, Vernon and his wife, Barbara, bought a new building, renovated and moved the barbershop into the new place.
But things quickly went downhill and according to Barbara, they owed the bank $481,000. The building was only valued at $350,000 before the bank auctioned it off.
But just as they were about to lose their business, Winfrey swooped in and bought the barbershop for $475,000. A spokeswoman for Winfrey confirmed the purchase and claimed that Vernon “will continue to manage the business on a day-to-day basis.”
Though Vernon may be happy about the purchase, his wife is surprisingly angry at Winfrey for coming to the rescue.
“I know what is going on. I’m tired of it, and I’ve had enough,” Barbara Winfrey told WSMV-TV, adding that she believes Vernon is taking bad advice from “people.”
Fortunately — or rather unfortunately — for Barbara, she won’t have to deal with Vernon’s bad business or Winfrey anymore because Vernon filed for divorce on July 3.
