Because he was a prolific classical pianist, Bishop won a full scholarship to United States International University in San Diego, Calif. His grades were not good, but the move put him in proximity to Hollywood, which he would soon storm from out of nowhere. One day, while visiting West Hollywood’s the Comedy Store, Bishop’s girlfriend dared him to go onstage and perform. He took her up on that bet and the legend of Jamie Foxx was born. Foxx started performing stand-up comedy in 1989 and within two years became a cast member of the hit sketch comedy show, “In Living Color,” where he remained for its last three seasons.
