Jay-Z Targeted in Multimillion Dollar Logo Lawsuit

Jay-Z may have walked away from Roc-A-Fella Records years ago, but it looks like his past is catching up to him in the worst way. A new report claims that Jay and his former record label partners, Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, are now being targeted in a $7 million lawsuit in unpaid royalties for the design of the famous Roc-A-Fella logo.

According to the New York Daily News, on July 12, Dwayne Walker filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court claiming that he came up with the logo in 1995, when Roc-A-Fella was just getting started.

Walker claims his logo idea came after he saw what label co-founder Dash had in mind for the logo and he told Dash that he could do a better one.

Now, Walker wants his royalties for what has been called one of the best known symbols in rap music.

“The logo has become universally recognized as an iconic symbol of Jay-Z, one of the most successful recording artists in the history of popular music,” the suit says.

After selling the label, Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records became a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.
