Drake Claims He's First Person to Successfully Rap and Sing: Why He's Wrong

When it comes to Drake, there’s little room for question about the young emcee’s impact on the current music scene. Over the past three years, he’s risen from the world of underground music to the top of the pop main stage with his genre-bending style of emotionally bare hip-hop. And while Drake certainly has room to brag about his success, and his jaw-dropping talent, the rapper recently made a bold statement about his rapper/singer style that has fans up in arms.

“There were people who incorporated melody before me,” Drake said in a recent interview with the Jewish Chronicle. “But I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing.”

Our response: Ummmmm what?!

Yeah, we’re not sure whether Drake simply forgot about all of the rappers/singers that came before him, or if he actually believes he’s the first one to achieve success with that style.

Either way, we beg to differ and below are some other rappers who definitely hit the top of the charts by crooning, long before Drake’s reign. – nicholas robinson
