Music fans were both shocked and thrilled when hip-hop’s rising star, Kendrick Lamar, struck up an odd friendship with pop’s queen of avante garde, Lady Gaga. And now their budding friendship has apparently borne a much hoped for duet for his upcoming debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city.
Gaga confirmed the new collaboration yesterday, Aug. 15, via her Twitter page.
“I am so excited to announce that a record I’ve been working on has now become a collaboration with @KendrickLamar for HIS ALBUM,” she tweeted.
The Mother Monster then shared details about the track, explaining that it was inspired by the capital of Indonesia and Kendrick’s own thoughts about music, life and love.
“I wrote ‘PARTYNAUSEOUS’ about Jakarta, and my relationship with that country. Wishing I could ‘get high with the enemy’ and make peace,” tweeted Gaga, adding, “Once @kendricklamar + I started talking about life + his forward thinking views about love + hip hop, the song became something more.”
Kendrick remained mum about his strange collaboration, but shared his awe and excitement over his October release.
“25 yrs to write this album. Many moons from now. They’ll Dig up this disc as if it was rare artifacts. I’ll live forever,” he tweeted, the previous day.
Only time will tell if Kendrick’s debut will be a classic, but with his fame steadily on the rise and a rare and astounding collaboration with Lady Gaga under his belt, Kendrick may very well be on his way to becoming a legendary immortal in the hip-hop and pop worlds.
