In the 1980s, Larry Hoover became more powerful in prison and began to steer the Black Gangster Disciples in a more positive direction. He changed the GD in “Gangster Disciple” and turned it into “Growth and Development.” The nonprofit registered voters, fed needy children and gave charity.
