Tamar Braxton Defends Her Husband on ‘The Breakfast Club’
A boisterous Braxton and her music mogul husband are speaking out this week on the longstanding discrepancy surrounding the discovery of one of the world’s biggest pop stars. Vincent Herbert and his wife, Tamar Braxton, were guests Thursday on Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” and discussed a number of topics surrounding their “Tamar & Vince” reality program. Things got heated, however, when Herbert was asked to talk about the most prominent artist he’s ever signed; Lady Gaga. When the music exec was asked casually to explain why rapper Akon is often credited with discovering the songstress, his protective wife stepped in.
“Why would he mention Akon for?!” said Braxton. “He’s a liar and the truth ain’t in here. What was the story he told? I was there when he [Vince] discovered Lady Gaga and Akon was nowhere near.”
“To be honest from what I know, RedOne is his producer and so that’s how he got that credit. You know how people be stealing people’s publishing and stuff like that. I’ll put it all the way out there because she [Tamar] cares not. […] He didn’t find her on Myspace like this one [Vince] did, he didn’t find her on the roller skates with the bikini top. I’m just saying, he was not there! I just don’t like people lying like hell, just tell the truth!”
Tamar was then stopped mid-rant by her levelheaded husband but not before she dropped this jewel; “He needs to sit down in all the seats in Yankee stadium because he’s a liar.”
Tamar’s tirade, while excessive, is actually pretty well warranted. In an archived interview Akon made no mention of Herbert and, in fact, said that he could retire off Gaga’s contributions alone. ”And I was like ‘Yo, I want to sign that right there,” said Akon. She needs to be under my umbrella. Jimmy was like ‘Yeah, whatever you want. Take her. Let’s get it done.’ And she blossomed into a super megastar, man. […] She’s pretty much retired me.”
Vince later revisited the issue after being pressed by Charlamagne Tha God and vowed to clear the air once and for all. “This is Vincent The Herbert, Gaga is not signed to Akon. We wish everybody well, good night and God bless,” he said.
