The Georgia Pacific building was filled with fans, extras, actors and more on Friday, Oct. 5 to see the private screening of the remake of Steel Magnolias hosted by Kenny Leon.
As the famous director entered the venue cameras went off and many socialites, industry insiders and more congratulated Leon on his new venture. We had a chance to ask Leon why he wanted to remake the film and he stated that he wanted to give the six actresses a chance to shine. “There are not really that many great roles for African Americans these days, I wanted to change that and they deserve it.” The film stars Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodward and more. At the event basketball great Dr. J(Julius Erving) was also in the house with his lovely wife and daughter. He makes a cameo in the film as a doctor. Check out the pictures from the event.
