The taping is over from the 2012 Soul Train Awards that took place at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The red carpet was phenomenal and many celebrities came in town to support the awards show. After the red carpet everyone made their way to their seats for the show and that’s when all the fun began! The award ceremony started off with a bang with host Cedric The Entertainer and the Soul Train Dancers hitting the stage dancing, while music director Raphael Saadiqq lead the live band. The crowd was up on their feet enjoying the entertainment. They showed a hologram of founder Don Cornelius that was very touching to see.
They showed fun clips from different artists that performed in Las Vegas that stopped by for cameo appearances like Billy Crystal,brother and sister duo Donny & Marie and more who welcomed the Soul Train Awards and said they were happy to have them in Vegas. Fantasia graced the stage where she paid homage to Aretha Franklin by singing one her smash hits. She did an awesome job and was looking fabulous with her new weight loss. R&B crooner Charlie Wilson came to the stage and sang one of his greatest hits, Outstanding. The audience jumped to their feet clapping and dancing. That was just the opening of the show mind you.
Best R& B Male went to newcomer Miguel, he was very appreciative thanking his girlfriend. Ne-Yo later hit the stage with a stellar performance with great dancers and set design! He sang, Let me Love You. Later on they showed a clip of the trio-group Shalimar and Jody Watley came out to present. It was great to see her, she looked nice. Don Cornelius son Tony, also came to the stage and made a speech. Dancers then made their way to the stage where they did dances from back in the day. Song of the Year went to singer Tyrese for Stay. Eddie Levert showed Cedric the Entertainer how to romance women by singing Casanova, that was a funny skit. John Legend sat at the piano with sexy ladies belting out Best You Ever Had, the girls went wild!
Later New Edition won the Lifetime Achievement Award and all the members came to the stage, each giving a heartfelt speech. Bobbi Brown thanked his wife and kids.
