A volunteer traveled from Lakeland, Fla. to Long Island to assist the Long Island Power Authority with restoring power to an area ravaged by Superstorm Sandy. John Applewhite, a lineman, was brutally attacked by a stranger suffering a meltdown due to the lack of power.
The 34-year-old electrical worker traveled to East Hempstead, Long Island with 24 colleagues and was attacked after a 16-hour shift. The man yelled at him before breaking his jaw and several other facial bones.
The culprit was driving a black BMW, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
