The 39th Annual Bayou Classic will take place in New Orleans again at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Nov. 23 and feature the Battle of the Bands and Greek Show. On Saturday, Nov. 24 the infamous rivals, Grambling State and Southern Universitywill face each other on the grid iron. Grambling’s head coach Doug Williams and Southern University’s Dawson Odums will again take to the field.
In 2011, the two schools split $1.32 million in proceeds from the series of Bayou Classic events. These proceeds provide support to the campus’ athletic programs and fund scholarships through the Southern University System Foundation and the Grambling State University Foundation
The 2012 Rickey Smiley HBCU Tailgate Tour will also make its way to the Bayou Classic. Smiley will participate in the Bayou Classic Fan Fest held pre-game on Saturday, Nov. 24, 10 am – 1:30 pm. It will be held at Champions Square
A few other events to attend are: the Thanksgiving Day Parade presented by State Farm Nov. 22; Bayou Classic Golf Tournament on Friday, Nov. 23; the HBCU Institute:Empowerment Exchange Career & College Fair at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Saturday, Nov. 24, a Gospel Brunch at House of Blues on Sunday, Nov.25.
