While many of today’s celebrities thrive onmedia scandals, rapper Eve has been that rare star who’s remained out of trouble for most of her career. However, there is one glaring blemish on nearly perfect record — her sex tape with her ex-boyfriend, producer Stevie J. And though Stevie insists that the sex tape made Eve a superstar, she’s now speaking out and saying the exact opposite.
Last week, Eve sat down for an interview on MTV’s “RapFix Live,” where host Sway Calloway showed her a clip of Stevie speaking about the infamous sex tape, which surfaced in the early 2000s. In the clip, Stevie claims that he wasn’t the one who leaked the tape, but he does claim that the tape helped Eve’s career.
“I made a tape and gave it to her and she took it on the road, on tour with her, and the rest was history,” said Stevie. “It wasn’t me, I ain’t release that joint. I gave it to her and one of her girlfriends leaked it.”
“It’s got her hot, more hot,” Stevie added.
However, that’s not at all how Eve sees it.
“It definitely didn’t,” Eve responded after watching the clip. “When that happened, sex tapes weren’t ‘hot’ like that, and I got the FBI involved. So that’s not something I wanted to happen.”
Eve admits that she’s unsure who leaked the video, but she says the leak was not a proud moment for her, her family or her brand.
“However it got out, it did get out. I don’t know who did it, I’m not putting any names out there. But I respect my mother and my family and that’s not something I am OK with. And it hurt my heart that anyone who was in my circle — whether it be him [Stevie] or anybody else — it hurt my heart that that went out there. That’s not my thing,” Eve said.
