Marvin Gaye's son opposes biopic with Lenny Kravitz

Many have tried to bring the phenomenal life of soul legend Marvin Gaye to the big screen, but last month it was revealed that Gaye’s life would finally be turned into a biopic, Sexual Healing, starring rock legend Lenny Kravitz. Although many rejoiced over the prospect of seeing Gaye brought back to life on screen, one person who wasn’t thrilled about news of the biopic was Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, who recently spoke out against the film and Kravitz’s portrayal of his father.

In a new interview with TMZ, Gaye III says that the biopic, which reportedly covers his father’s life in the ’80s when he battled drug addiction and depression, is “shameful” and shines a negative light on the legacy of his father.

“The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful … [They’re] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don’t even know the whole story.”

Surprisingly, Gaye III and Kravitz have been friends since childhood, but Gaye says he want to “talk to him [Kravitz] about why he would do this.”

Marvin Jr. says that he and other family members are currently meeting with lawyers to bring a halt to the production of the film.

“I would hope [Lenny] doesn’t have any idea that we are against this film being done,” said Marvin Jr.
