Laura Smalls has been a fashion designer for quite awhile. She’s a graduate of the famous Parson School of Design and even had a collection at Bloomingdale’s and Henri Bendel. It was not always easy for the designer after having contracts end and not being able to get appointments. That all changed when her mom gave her a phone call a few months ago that Flotus was wearing one her dresses at the Democratic National Convention. Michelle Obama was wearing a printed aubergine dress that Smalls designed. She was so excited but wasn’t home at the time to see the first lady in the garment, she frantically told her husband to take a picture of the TV. Her life has now changed and she is busier than ever. She credits Vogue editor Andre Talley for furthering along her career, who spotted her at a party wearing one of her own creations. Celebrities who have worn her designs include Zoe Saldana, Halle Berry, Kerry Washington and Angelina Jolie. Check out her latest collection from Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.
