Christmas came a second time for Jeremy Lockett and his family of Malden, Mass., when he purchased a scratch-off lottery ticket on the way home and won a $50,000 prize. He packed up the family and headed to the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Braintree headquarters to collect his winnings where they found out he did indeed win but not the amount he thought. He actually won $50,000 a year for life. That’s 13 times the amount he originally thought he won.
According to lottery officials, “They went nuts and were dancing all around in the lottery office.”
Lockett is a self-employeed business owner and bought the winning $20 “Lifetime Spectacular” ticket at a Stop N Gas in Dorchester, Mass.
He selected the cash option, which is based on the prize’s minimum 20-year guaranteed payout then received a one-time payment of $650,000, minus taxes. Stop N Gas will collect a $10,000 commission on the sale.
His immediate plans are to pay off some small debts and make a few investments.
