Uncle Luke calls Spike Lee a 'scheming Uncle Tom'

Spike Lee has been getting brutalized in the weeks after his comments denouncing Quentin Tarantino epic slave-era film Django Unchained as “disrespectful to my ancestors.” Comedian Donnell Rawlings dismissed Lee as “irrelevant,” and comedian Dick Gregory even called the Do the Right Thing director as a “thug” and a “punk” who makes “thug movies.”

Now it’s 2 Live Crew veteran Luther Campbell, who peeled Lee’s backside in his latest column in the Miami New Times.

“Screw Spike Lee,” Campbell begins. “Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ is a brilliant flick that more accurately depicts the African-American experience than any of the 15 movies about black culture Lee’s directed in his lifetime.”

Campbell finished op-ed piece with an even harder swing at Lee: “Spike is upset because Samuel L. Jackson’s character in the movie is just like him: a conniving and scheming Uncle Tom.”

As you recall, Lee publicly condemned Django Unchained and tweeted that he was “honoring” the memory of those who came before him by protesting the film.

Despite his misgivings about the film, Tarantino still picked up a Golden Globe for best screenplay and is up for 5 Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards.
