Michelle Obama's inaugural ball gown; the details

For months on end people have been wondering which designer first lady Michelle Obama was going to wear. There were lots of designers in the running like Michael Kors, Tracey Reese and more but the winning dress went to designer Jason Wu, whose design Obama wore in 2009. The dress was sketched out first and submitted to the first lady for approval. Wu is not allowed fittings with Obama, so he has to go by her measurements then fit the dress on a form. She then approves everything and the dress is shipped to her. She wore a red couture halter-neck chiffon gown with velvet details paired with rhinestoned bangles by Kimberly McDonald for Forevermark Diamond, and Jimmy Choo shoes. Check out the designer’s sketch of the stunning dress after the break. Pics by Getty.
