But in a shocking revelation, Houston’s brother admitted that he is the sole person to blame for introducing the singer to drugs like cocaine back in the ’80s, not Bobby Brown, and last night he came clean to Oprah.
Of course, entering into a volatile relationship with Bobby Brown, who also has a history of drug addiction, didn’t help when his wife tried multiple times to get clean. But at least Americans know, once and for all, that Brown didn’t contaminate the golden goddess of music.
Urbanites, of course, have long known that Houston was addicted to illicit drugs before she met Brown.
Michael Houston sat down with his mother, Cissy, and laid it all out for Oprah on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” admitting he was the first person who did drugs with Whitney.
Michael said he still harbors a lot of guilt for his sister’s death almost a year ago on the eve of the Grammy Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“You gotta understand at the time — the 80s — it was acceptable,” he said, according to tmz.com. “It’s painful. I feel responsible for what I let go so far.”
The Houstons were a tight-knit family, so much so that both of her brothers penned hits for their beloved sister. Michael Houston also wrote songs for the hit movie Waiting to Exhale.
Houston was found dead by her handlers after a drug binge that included cocaine, Xanax and marijuana, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
