The NFL still has a problem when it comes to race. Of course, minorities account for over 70 percent of the players on the field, but there are only three black head coaches (Mike Tomlin, Leslie Frazier, Marvin Lewis) and five general managers (Baltimore Raven’s Ozzie Newsome, Detroit Lion’s Martin Mayhew, Houston Texan’s Rick Smith, Giant’s Jerry Reese, and Raiders’ Reggie McKenzie).
There were 15 head coaching and general manager openings at the end of the NFL season. However, all of the openings went to white candidates while qualified blacks were overlooked. The NFL remains a good ole boy network where owners and general mangers hire their friends instead of the best qualified.
