In a controversial 2007 interview, Akon revealed that he owns a diamond mine and revealed that he didn’t believe that “conflict diamonds” existed, despite the fact that Amnesty International claims four million people have died in wars fueled by the diamond trade. “I don’t believe in conflict diamonds. That’s just a movie. Think about it. Nobody thought or cared about conflict diamonds until [the film Blood Diamonds] was released.”
