In 2004, Fox actually greenlit a reality show where insecure and unattractive women competed for a chance to get plastic surgery to make themselves beautiful. Besides the fact the show only further promoted impossible standards of beauty and damaged self-esteem — and IQ — on a national level, many of the contestants ended up with broken relationships, bank accounts and mental states after the show wrapped.
