Hendrix reimagined Bob Dylan’s poetically abstract folk tune as a psychedelic freak-out of guitar and cascading drums. The song would become Hendrix’s only charting single in the U.S. during his lifetime and proved to be so enduring that even Dylan began performing the Hendrix version.
