After news of Shain Gandee’s death hit the Internet, MTV has reportedly made the decision to cancel the reality series mid-production. Initially, filming was just put on pause, but according to Deadline, network executives couldn’t see any way to continue the show without Gandee.
While a substantial amount of footage for the show has already been filmed, it may just air as a Buckwild special as opposed to running for a second season.
Gandee was found dead in West Virginia earlier this month after a truck he was in with his uncle and another passenger became submerged in mud; the coroner ruled his death the result of carbon monoxide poisoning. He was 21. – ruthie hawkins
