8. Rap-A-Lot

J Prince is the South’s version of Russell Simmons. He founded Rap-A-Lot records in 1986 and the label broke out in 1990 with the release of The Geto Boys’ self-titled album. Scarface helped to take the label to new heights with the classic albums, Mr. Scarface Is Back (’91) and The Diary (’94). Artists such as Do or Die, Devin The Dude, Trae Tha Truth, Bun B and Z-Ro has kept the label relevant in the ‘2000s.
