Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) members are headed to Atlanta for their 2013 mid-year conference on May 17 and 18, 2013, at the State Bar of Georgia headquarters. The welcome event will be held at Vanquish Lounge. Themed,”Maximizing Partnerships for Global Competency” the conference will be presided over by Bernie Lawrence-Watkins of B. Lawrence Watkins & Associates, P.C., based in Atlanta.
According to the website, BESLA is a nonprofit organization of lawyers, entertainment and sports industry executives, legal educators, and law students who support a more diversified, expert and informed group of entertainment and sports industry professionals.
Thirty-two years ago, a group of notable African American attorneys met in Philadelphia during the First Annual Black Music Association Conference. They identified a need to establish an ongoing learning and networking environment for African American attorneys in the entertainment industry; one that would provide an opportunity to share and exchange information, refer business, learn of industry opportunities, sharpen their skills and support each other in the highly competitive field of entertainment.
