Nadine Ellis: This Hollywood thing might work after all

Switching gears here, you’ve got to fill us in on this new Toyota Avalon commercial. Give us the rundown on that.
Funny story; I went in late December and auditioned for this Toyota commercial. When I showed up, I saw the name “Idris” and I paused for a moment, because there is really only one Idris. So I asked one of the assistants to tell me what Idris they were talking about. When she told me Idria Elba, I was really excited, because I think that he is just an amazing talent. As far as the commercial goes, it was just really a great concept. Even on paper, it just felt like a film. When I met with the director, Antony Hoffman, he was crystal clear that this wouldn’t just be your typical commercial.  He was so locked in on his vision for it, that I knew walking away from our meeting that it would be an amazing project. So I spent four days with Antony, Idris and the Avalon, and I couldn’t be happier with how the project turned out.  I hope that the public has been enjoying the first installment of that series, and I can’t wait for them to see more.

Do you ever take a moment to reflect on your success thus far?
You know what I reflect on? I reflect on the tremendous support that I have received from my family. Without their love and support, none of this would be possible. And I still have a long way to go in accomplishing all of my dreams, but it’s just comforting to know that I have a support system that is behind me every step of the way.
