Another gay man beaten in New York’s East Village

Gay Flag

Just days after the senseless murder of gay Harlem resident, Mark Carson, New York City continues to see a disturbing spike in anti-gay hate crimes as a man was recently beaten by an apparent homophobe in the city’s East Village neighborhood.

According to NightlifeGay.com, party promoter Dan Contarino was attacked on Monday night at Avenue D and 4th Street by a man who screamed “f—-t” as he kicked and punched Contarino. Neighbors and witnesses rushed to aid Cantorino and chased after the attacker, but the assailant got away.

Police are now investigating the crime, but have yet to classify it as a hate crime.

However, Cantarino was adamant about his belief that he was attacked because he is gay and he posted a photo of his black eye and a heartbreaking description of his injuries on his Facebook page.

Dan Contarino - Black Eye

“THANKS FOR CALLS…. GAY BASHED LAST NITE…. back from small surgery…. CHEST XRAYS THIS AM…. suspect still at large… police n media waiting to interview me… U JUST WANNA CRY N MOVE ON….,” wrote Cantarino.

Seriously, at this point, the hate crimes must be stopped. There is no glory or humanity in verbally or physically attacking another human being for being themselves. The LGBT community cannot be beaten out of society, but they can and must be accepted before more violence occurs.

Sadly, this isn’t the only hate crime in recent times. Check out some other gay bashings below.
