Stars: Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Beyonce Knowles, Amanda Seyfried
Rolling out gathered a pint-sized group of movie enthusiasts to review Epic, the animated film based on the book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. Teenager Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) — or M.K. — as she prefers to be called, is drawn into a tiny wonderland after her three-legged dog, Ozzie, runs off into the forest behind her house. What she discovers is the alternate world her scientist father has been telling her existed all along, and it’s full of tiny people, strange bugs and lush greenery and flowers. M.K. joins the Leaf Men in battling the evil Mandrake and his minions, a nasty lot who are determined to destroy the forest.
So what did our reviewers think?
“I liked the movie. I liked the Leaf Men,” said Nico, 5.
“My favorite part was when they made the new queen,” said 7-year-old Eva.
“I wish they had used 3-D in more parts of the movie. Like when the bow and arrows were shot, instead of showing it sideways, they should have shown the arrows coming toward the audience,” said DJ, 10. All three reviewers would recommend the film to their friends and they unanimously agreed that the movie was “epic.” –p.d. lee
