Breaking the ice

When meeting the parents, you should attempt to connect beyond race initially. Sports, music and movies are great topics to discuss in the beginning. If you are a man speaking to your lover’s father, talk about your favorite NFL team or thoughts on who will win the Super Bowl. If you are a woman speaking to your lover’s mother, talk about your favorite movies, books or TV shows. It’s a great way for the parents to begin to see you as a person instead of focusing on your race.
