This year has proven to be the year of coming out stories and now former “Glee” star and international pop singer Charice has added herself to that list of brave celebrities who have decided to come out of the closet.
Earlier this week, Charice sat down for an interview with The Buzz and revealed that she is a lesbian.
In a translation of the interview, host, Boy Abunda of Manila TV spoke with Charice about her undeniable talents before asking her the deeply personal question about her sexuality.
“This is a difficult question to ask,” said Abunda. “I don’t know how to phrase this. Only because I believe you don’t owe anybody an explanation. I believe that talent has nothing to do with sexual orientation and gender identity. I’m going to ask it. Put simply, Charice, are you a lesbian?”
“I have a chance to do all of this internationally,” she responded. “[…] But I chose this place because I have a deep sense of gratitude to the Filipinos. Because I felt that I wanted it to be them; for them to learn what I am and who I am. Yes, I am a [lesbian].”
“Yes I’m a lesbian,” Charice added. “I don’t see a problem with that, because for me there isn’t a problem. Now, I would like to ask for forgiveness from the people that don’t understand.”
According to RadarOnline, Charice has already spoken for and has been in a secret relationship with Alyssa Quijano, a member of the Filipina girl group AKA Jam, for months.
“She’s like my everything,” Charice said during her press appearances on Monday.
