Rap legend MC Lyte and comedian Paul Mooney hosted the “Justice for Trayvon” vigils organized by the National Action Network in Chicago, Illinois yesterday. The goal was to press the federal government to investigate civil rights charges against George Zimmerman. Prayer vigils and rallies were held in front of federal buildings across the nation encouraging the United States Justice Department to investigate civil rights violations committed against Trayvon Martin.
Supporters in the Chicagoland area gathered at the Dirksen Federal Building (219 S. Dearborn, Chicago, IL). Speakers included Rainbow/PUSH Founder/President Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Chicago Urban League President Andrea Zopp, Father Michael L. Pfleger (Pastor, The Faith Community of St. Sabina), criminal defense attorney Andre Grant, civil rights attorney Lewis Myers, U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D, IL), and representatives from the National Action Network Chicago Chapter.
