The only minority to serve as a juror in the George Zimmerman murder trial believes that Zimmerman was guilty of murder.
Known as Juror B29, the juror appeared on an episode of “Good Morning America” to discuss the fall out from the trial. While speaking with Robin Roberts, the juror, who is Puerto Rican, said, “You can’t put the man in jail even though in our hearts we felt he was guilty. George Zimmerman got away with murder, but you can’t get away from God. And at the end of the day, he’s going to have a lot of questions and answers he has to deal with. [But] the law couldn’t prove it.”
Juror B29 said the she was the juror who would have caused the trial to end in a hung jury. However, she was confused by Florida’s manslaughter law. She believed that unless there was proof that a defendant killed intentionally, there wasn’t enough to find him guilty on the charge.
However, Juror B29 continues to struggle with the final outcome. “I felt like I let a lot of people down, and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Did I go the right way? Did I go the wrong way?'”
In some ways, she feels as if she played a role in Trayvon’s death. “It’s hard for me to sleep, it’s hard for me to eat because I feel I was forcefully included in Trayvon Martin’s death. And as I carry him on my back, I’m hurting as much [as] Trayvon’s Martin’s mother because there’s no way that any mother should feel that pain,” she said.
