Atlanta area high school football player dies after being injured during scrimmage game

A Fulton County, Ga. high school football player died after being injured during a scrimmage game Friday night.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed this morning that the student was DeAntre Turman, who is a junior at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga., died after being injured on the Banneker High School field Friday night. The teen was transported to Atlanta’s Grady Hospital where he died.


“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of this student,” Fulton County spokeswoman Samantha Evans said his morning. “This is truly a horrific way to begin a school year.”

An autopsy is expected to be performed soon by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.
